Game 41 - Butler vs. Pittsburgh 2011
A year after their thrilling run in the Tournament, Butler was handed an eight seed, and with it a matchup with the top seeded Pittsburgh Panthers in 2011. From a very young age, the importance of consistently practicing free throws is drilled into basketball players. This game is direct proof of the affect free throws can have on a game. After a senseless foul in the closing seconds by Butler's Shelvin Mack, the Panthers' Gilbert Brown made the first to tie the game, then missed the crucial second. Butler's Matt Howard came up with the rebound in the scrum, and in what was an even more senseless foul than Mack's, was sent to the line. Howard made the first, intentionally missed the second, as the Bulldogs wisely backed away, letting the clock run out on a thrilling victory. Here's a nice breakdown of the last few minutes of this one.
